Stop doing:
NDA
One sign-in computer
Having SHDH end at 10 (which is too early)
Expecting us to do our own dishes without telling us
Using catering that's through the host (too expensive)
Not getting enough paper plates (via underestimating attendees)
Food showed up late
Have the lightning talks room be a place that's already full
Procreation (Not naming any names, JOEL FRANUSIC, but we need the planners to be spending their time on what's really important)
Losing the hats
More active google group, have meetups
Make huge messes
Start doing:
If there's going to be an NDA to agree to or something like that, have copies of it available ahead of time so people can read it while in line
Have power set up for all areas ahead of time
When we're at a place where we're not allowed everywhere, have signs set up telling us where we're not allowed to go
When dealing with a large corporation that might have internal politics about how much to allow SHDH to do, take responsibility for advocating / marketing ourselves to that company
Have a list of things we need at a devhouse ("So you want to run a Large Coorporate Devhouse"), like a list of riders a band has for a venue
Extract a promise to return the hats when you give out the hats
Have T-Shirts for sale!
Have more furnature outside
Maybe have power outside?
Turn off everything that can run popups on the lightning talks presentation laptop
Keep the lightning talks presentation laptop on the resolution it's going to be presented on
Have a suggested lightning talk presentation format (usepow.com)
Have warning signs around equipment you aren't supposed to use
Say at sign-in what things we aren't allowed to do (or have printouts)
Say everywhere that we announce the event (facebook, emails, frontpage) what the expectations are for what we're allowed to do
Have diet drinks // low sugar drinks
Thank Google for use of the facility
Try to reduce the trip-inducing array of power cables somehow
Keep doing:
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue
Predict lateness with catering
Having solid wireless (there were complaints but fewer than ever)
Have enough room
Have a good layout for the lightning talks room - furnature set up to focus on the lightning talks
Have outdoor spaces
Massage Guy

Internet was terrible in the lightning talk room. If others saw it as solid, I regret not moving rooms.
Turntable.fm turned out to be a great troll-free vote-based music option. :)

Wireless was really slow...people don't complain because they're used to it. My average bandwidth was 22KB/s, slowest was about 250B/s. Catering setup wasn't handled poorly...just not handled. I'm positive that allowing a bunch of greasy meat to sit at room temperature for hours on end is a health risk. Looking back fondly at the mansion SHDH's now, even the grill-your-own ones, and especially Microsoft's fantastic SHDH (gave us lots of space, great food with onsite catering staff, allowed us to roam lots of different rooms instead of cramming us into a cafeteria). Tech Museum and Hacker Dojo both have food planning problems but otherwise the exact right idea. SHDH should never end before midnight, 2am and beyond are even better. I confess I just got tired of it this time, and bailed halfway through lightning talks, met up with some friends in Mountain View for Mexican food. Props to Google for allowing it to happen, but they don't get it.

I disagree that procreation isn't important. It's the only way we'll get new hackers in the future. Congratulations Joel!
