Rules:

Teams can be of any size greater than zero. :)

All code and design used in the competition must be EITHER open source OR written after the competition begins.

Access will be cut off 11:59pm Sunday night. Further modification or improvement to the service will disqualify your team.

You MAY continue to promote and provide customer support for your service, however.

The goal of the competition is to create a "money printing machine". This means a service that has no ongoing human interaction in order to produce revenues. The team that generates the most money with their machine after a month will be crowned the winner.

Because the goal is to create an automated mechanism, no member of your team should have to perform any amount of work or service manually to produce revenue.

Judging will be via PayPal or AdSense ; all transactions to be judged must go through the official Paypal Integration or AdSense ID that we will be providing. This enables us to have a realtime scoreboard showing which team is ahead.

At the end of the competition, the first place team will get to keep all but 10% of their earnings, the second place team will get to keep all but 30% of their earnings, and the third place team will get to keep 50% of their earnings. All other earnings will be credited to DHX. After the competition, you are free to retain 100% of ongoing earnings from your project.

Hosting will be freely provided during the competition. After the competition, Simpli Hosting will provide competitive hosting rates for ongoing service.

The team lead will receive the disbursement for the team and is responsible for divvying up the loot as they see fit.

Programming will be on a custom-configured Debian Linux box provided by and hosted at Simpli Hosting with the following packages installed. Please let us know BEFORE the competition if there are other standard packages you will need.

If you are found to be unneccessarily consuming computing resources, attempt to hack the box or in any way interfere with or hinder the success of other teams, your team will be immediately disqualified and all funds forfeited.

  • apache

All code created by you and your team during the competition remains entirely yours. At the end of the competition you may decide to Open Source your project, sell it and the domain wholesale on EBay, or run with it as a company as you please.

Offsite competitors will be allowed.

We will publicly list the projects in the competition.

All development must be with equipment and intellectual property that is legal for you to use in conjunction with this contest.
